• $$The Polk County Historical Society was established in 1937 and is a nonprofit organization. Throughout its years, the Society has been building a collection featuring Polk County’s prehistoric bison bone assemblage, Native American culture, the lumber industry, early settlers and immigrants, military veterans, rural schools, local communities, government, and businesses. The collections are housed in the three-story courthouse in downtown Balsam Lake. The courthouse was built in 1899 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Admission is free to the public; donations are greatly appreciated.
